I’m not a builder. I can do very basic DIY, and I mean basic and that’s about it.
I know pretty much nothing about building.
What I do love to do is researching, and I am sure some of my help about choosing kitchens bits of kitchens and appliances will be of use.
I live in London with my wife and 2 year old son, and we needed a new kitchen, badly. And I really do mean badly.
The old kitchen was very old, bits kept falling off it.
OK I will get to specifics.
The tiles in the old kitchen can only be described as retro, or simply dreadful, cracked and old.
The oven knew we were getting a new kitchen and that it was being replaced so it decided that the door would not close anymore.
The waste pipe was bent at strange angles causing the waste disposal to clog
The washing machine for some reason was connected via a separate pipe which constantly leaked, and I had to end up placing the waste pipe from the washing machine directly to the outside pipe.
So you get the idea, we needed a new kitchen, the B&Q designed came over and gave us a quote.
The design was OK but not great, space could be used better, a lot better, the kitchen designer on B&Q’s website is very good but can’t cope with what you could place under the drainer in a sink, and in a small galley kitchen like ours, this is essential.
I would suggest if you have a good builder use them instead of B&Q as the cost for their installation was very high in addition appliances can be bought cheaper and better elsewhere, although buying it all through B&Q does give you convenience of that the whole job is done from one company and most importantly reduce the stress level hugely.
We didn’t choose the kitchen companies that will do it all for you, due to mainly bad reviews, and the expense.
I hope you like our new kitchen and the hints and tips, it is only my view and I am sure lots of other people will come up with a lot of better brighter ideas but hopefully it will get your mind working.
