There are not many places that review double ovens.
Once you have your oven, unless something goes wrong with it or you buy a new kitchen you are unlikely to buy one.
As mentioned on one of the previous pages, our kitchen oven was falling apart, we needed a new one and I wanted a good one.
Fortunately our friends had recently had their kitchen redone and told us the AEG oven was fantastic, so we had a very good starting point.
We chose the AEG D88004M oven because it came with a 5 year warranty, (which some of the websites still offer) is energy efficient and has a special stay clean coating (which basically means when then over goes above 220 centigrade the food and fats turn to ash)
It is very clever; in fact that is the main fault with the oven. It is so clever that you have to read the manual. The interface is very simple but it has so many options.
The first time you turn on the oven the clock needs to be set, simple enough. You then press the standby button and the top oven is selected, you can flip between the ovens with one of the buttons, and change the mode the oven is in with another switch.
I am used to a turn on oven, set temperate and that's it, and yes you can do that but also, you can do so much more.
Normally an oven takes 10-15 minutes to warm up properly, however this oven has a special turbo charge option, which means it heats up really quickly, and it doesn't end there.
Cooking a pizza?
Simply place it in the middle shelf. There is an option to heat the top element with a fan so it grills and oven cooks at same time. We did burn a pizza first time round because we placed it on the top shelf rather than the middle one, as advised in the instruction manual. It really does pay to read it.
Depending on what you are cooking you set the oven to different modes, e.g. Rotitherm Roasting if you want to grill with the oven door closed.
It has a defrost option and a keep oven warm setting. The grill on the top oven has two heat settings, depending on if you are cooking a small amount of food or a lot. It is very clever indeed.
There is a clock that tells you how long the food has been cooking but this does reset itself when you change the mode, which is a bit annoying but does make sense. It even tells you the temperature of the oven as it heats up and cools down.
Because the elements are at both the top and bottom you really need to use an oven glove otherwise you will burn yourself.
The most important section of the review is the food, it cooks great, and the food tastes wonderful, with the grill options in the main oven you can give the food a crispy top. It's really great. Pizzas are fantastic, even the noble jacket potato comes out perfectly with a few minutes at the end of grill fan mode to make the skins crispy.
The oven isn't cheap but it really is worth it. If you have a choice between a fancy work top and a fancy oven, I would go with the oven.
I rate this oven 5 out of 5, excellent.
